broken {Holy Saturday}

Only days ago
Jerusalem echoed with
ecstatic cries of praise for the King.
And then, just yesterday,
ugly and piercing jeers
demanding the death
of the same man.

But now, there is only silence
as the city forgets Him,
dismissing Him as just another
revolutionary whose memory will
fade.

Silence,
as His friends mourn,
hidden in fear.

Silence,
as His mother ponders
everything that she has seen and felt.

Silence,
as everyone who saw and believed
fears that their world is falling apart,
that the very laws of the universe
have been broken
because their God lays dead in a tomb.

to love is to be broken (1)
